AYUSH KUMAR

Ayush is a Sydney-based photographer specialising in sport, live music and major events. Originally from Jamshedpur, India, he moved to Australia in 2019 with a camera, a dream and a slightly unreasonable belief that one day he would photograph the people and moments he had grown up watching from the other side of the world.

Turns out, unreasonable isn’t always impossible . . .

Today, Ayush regularly covers assignments for leading photo agencies, athletes, artists, teams, venues and promoters – documenting everything from sporting Grand Finals to sold-out international concerts. Whether it’s ninety minutes under stadium floodlights or three songs in a photo pit, he is chasing moments that will still mean something when the scoreboard is forgotten, the stage is empty and the lights have gone out.

Away from the camera, Ayush lives in quiet hope that the next phone call will be from FC Barcelona, Linkin Park or another dream assignment he somehow managed to speak into existence.

Photography has taken Ayush further than he ever imagined – from the sidelines of the world’s biggest sporting moments to working alongside the athletes, artists and personalities he once admired from afar. If it’s taught him one thing, it’s this: never underestimate the power of dreaming outrageously.

Until then, he will keep turning up with two cameras, too many batteries and the same excitement he had when he first picked one up.
